Every image on this site is listed here with its source and licence. A research venue that asks authors to cite their sources should cite its own.
Fill in the photographer's name and year in the second table before launch.
Original artwork
The following were drawn for OSRI and are not derived from any existing image. They are released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence — reuse them with credit.
| Image | Where it appears | How it was made |
|---|---|---|
| Engine-turned rule | Below the navigation on every page | Two sine waves of different frequency, drawn at 26 phase offsets — the interference pattern used on engraved certificates |
| Laurel fleuron | Above the footer | Two sprigs with alternating almond leaves, flanking a lozenge |
| Rosette | Confirmation and error pages | Three concentric hypotrochoids with integer radii |
| OSRI seal | Masthead, browser tab | Designed for OSRI |
All of these are produced by make_ornaments.py in the site folder, except the seal. Re-running that script redraws them.
Images added later
When you add a photograph, painting or historical plate to the site, add a row here. Record the title, the creator if known, the holding institution, the licence, and a link back to the source page. If an image is in the public domain, say so explicitly rather than leaving the licence column blank.
| Image | Where | Source | Licence |

What we will and will not publish
OSRI uses only images that are in the public domain, released under an open licence, or created by us. We do not use images found through a general image search without checking their licence, and we do not rely on a source being "probably fine".
The same standard applies to figures inside submitted manuscripts. If your paper reproduces a figure from a published source, you must have permission or the figure must be openly licensed, and the caption must credit it. A figure you drew yourself from data needs no permission — just cite the data.
